A charming antique Belle Epoque era French sterling silver sugar sifter spoon. The elegant pierced bowl further decorated with fine engraving and enhanced in gold vermeil finish. Exquisite Renaissance styling to the handle, richly decorated with foliage and scales motif. Centered by a blank cartouche topped by a detailed mascaron, a Green Man or satyr figure. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, depicting the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of .950/1000 (95% silver and higher than the standard .925 for sterling silver). Bearing maker’s marks for silversmith Emile Huignard, active circa 1880 at 3 rue de Bretagne, Paris. In overall good condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. The sugar sifter spoons measures 5 ¼” length. Weighs 27.3 grams. Housed in the original presentation box, the box measures 7 ¼” x 3” x 1 ½” height.
