Antique French TAHAN Paris Signed Kingwood Parquetry Inlay Twin Tea Caddy Box
An antique 19th century French TAHAN Kingwood parquetry inlaid double well tea caddy of serpentine shaping with canted corners and brass bound edges. Exquisite parquetry throughout, comprising of an intricate pattern of octagonal formations. The quality of the work is exceptional, the superb craftsmanship of the renown ébéniste Tahan is evident in the remarkably fine parquet work, meticulously inlaid in Kingwood and mahogany veneers. Opens to a mahogany finished interior inlaid in brass stringing fitted with a pair of matching lids, revealing two foil paper lined compartments to house tea with interior foiled lids within. Has a lock but lacking the key. Signature to the lock plate: Tahan Paris. In very good condition for a piece of this age with general wear. There is a chip to the knob on one of the foil covered inner lids. Measures 10 3/8" length x 5 7/8" width x 5 3/8" height.
