An impressive antique 19th century hunting scene. Executed by a German hunting and animal painter Moritz Müller (1841 - 1899). Depicting a portrait of setter or spaniel dog with a hare. Signed lower right "M. Müller, Munchen" ( in English: Munich). Oil on wood panel. Unframed, measures 10 5/8" x 8 3/8" . In good antique condition.

Moritz Müller was born on April, 8th 1841 in Munich Germany; died March 31 1899. He was a skilled painter of impressive animals scenes. His scenes are characterized by wild animals in majestic landscapes as well as hunting scenes focusing on dogs (including dachshunds and gun hounds ) on the chase for game such as deer, fox and boar. He was the son of Carl Friedrich Moritz Müller. He was trained by his father and by Kaulbach. From 1876 onwards, he worked and exhibited in Munich, and also had exhibitions in Dresden, Hanover and Berlin.
