Rare antique 18th century German porcelain snuff box. Circa 1750. Attributed to Meissen (Pre - Marcolini period). Unmarked, however it is well known that early Meissen items of the first half of the 18th century - especially boxes and other objects of daily use - were not always signed. Oblong oval formed box, molded in raised relief with scrolls and rocailles accented in gold and puce purple. With rare dual sided feature, comprising of double lids on the opposite ends of the box opening to individual separate compartments. Finely hand painted in exquisite detail with vibrant colors. Each side is decorated with a rare maritime theme. Featuring panoramic views of a coastal seaside landscape with boats along a busy harbor. Gilded bronze or brass hinged mounts. Interior with beautifully painted portraits of a nesting hen and rooster in a forest setting. In very good antique condition. Measures 3 1/8" length x 1 3/4" width x 2 3/8" height.
