Antique early 19th century miniature portrait mourning memento. Superb finely painted watercolor portrait miniature of a young child holding a white rose, sitting beside the tomb. The tomb with dedication in German: B. Schoell, died the 21st of January 1808 at 14 months, Sleep Gently. Housed under convex glass with gilded brass surround in a wooden frame. The back of the frame with a notation that the portrait was framed in St. Gallen (Switzerland). In overall good antique condition with general wear to the frame commensurate with age and use. There is a hairline in the portrait located at the 9 o'clock position in the tree trunk in the background. Frame measures 5 3/8" square. The portrait measures 3" diameter (sight).
