Antique 19th century sculpted agate wax seal. Perhaps French or Viennese in origin. Large and impressive size. Solid carnelian agate stone handle exhibiting rich color and banding. Surmounted with a heavy base of tested sterling silver embellished with 10K to 12K gold accents. Decorated with finely modeled silver dog heads (greyhound or whippet perhaps) and pairs of putti figures holding beautifully detailed floral garlands made of of sculpted rose and yellow gold. The matrix engraved with a monogram within a shield, appears to be interlaced initials BE in elegant script, surrounded by the letters DOGE at the cardinal points. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use, some marks/scratches visible to the matrix as shown. Measures 4 1/2" length x 1 3/8" wide, the matrix is 3/4" diameter.
