A rare antique Victorian wax seal maker and breaker. Used by lawyer's, barrister's and other members of the legal profession to break wax seals on documents and briefs with the hammer end, the matrix end to stamp seals, and the handle served as a letter opener. The hammer head and handle is carved from solid banded agate stone. The solid agate, selected for its beautiful coloration, features a stunning blend of coffee and caramel colors contrasted with sinuous white stripes. Finished with bronze or brass mounts. The matrix end is monogrammed with interlaced initials MB. In overall good antique condition with general wear. Measures 6 1/2" length x 1 7/8" width.
