Antique 19th century French 18K gold mounted hand carved shell cameo brooch pin. Circa 1890;s. Finely carved with a scene of 3 putti figures with grapes and fruit, perhaps representing an allegory of Summer or Bacchus/Bacchanalian. A very well-carved example mounted in 18K yellow gold frame decorated with thick interlaced scrolls embellished with intricate engraving. Hallmarked with the French 18K gold standard mark in a form of an eagle's head in use in France from 1838. Having a C-shaped clasp setting and T-hinged pin. In good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. There are some dings to the gold mount visible in the pictures. The back of the cameo shows two small cracks at the bottom edge, however these do not penetrate the shell and are not visible from the front. Weighs 13.7 grams. Measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/2"
