Rare antique Art Nouveau French sterling silver & cameo glass claret jug carafe. The elegant form of the decanter boasts a baluster shaped body with long slender neck. The body is of frosted clear acid-etched cameo glass decorated with parcel-gilt flowers and leaves. Unsigned, though most likely Daum. Mounted with sterling silver neck, handle and base. Rich decoration to the neck comprises of fluting, ribbon tied laurel, lush scrolling foliage and flowers. Suspended below the spout is a crisscross quiver of arrows and bow. The hinged lid topped by a finely casted finial in the form of leaves and berries on a fluted/striped base, opening to reveal a gilt vermeil interior. The sweeping handle richly decorated with stylized acanthus. Resting on a pedestal base with neoclassical foliage and gadrooned trim. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with use. No chips or cracks to the cameo glass body. Hallmarks of the French Minerve or Minerva mark, the number 1 indicates 1st quality and denotes a content of .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for sterling silver). Maker's mark is slightly rubbed, possible for Parisian silversmith Edouard Ernie, active from 1882 at 7 rue Réaumur, Paris. Stands 13 1/4" height x 6 1/4" width.
