Vintage Chinoiserie porcelain table lamp. Featuring a Chinese export porcelain statue depicting the Laughing Buddha (Budai). Expertly crafted, the smooth, glossy, white Dehua porcelain statue captures the Buddha's joyful, smiling expression and plump belly, which is a traditional symbol of wealth and abundance. Modeled in a seated pose, he is depicted holding a fan, symbolizing joy, happiness and the fanning away of misfortune. Known in Feng Shui as a "wish-granting" fan, its purpose is to bring good fortune, ward off negative energy, and ensure safe travels. Mounted to a gilded wood base. To the back is a single bronze or brass curved stem topped by two pull chain light sockets and harp fitting. Topped by a cream 2-tiered pagoda shade and good luck symbol finial. In overall good vintage condition with general wear commensurate with age and use, no chips or cracks to the porcelain figure. The lamp shade is in good vintage condition.
