Antique Dutch casted bronze figural wax seal desk stamp. The handle is a commemorative statuette depicting a milkmaid with a butter churner. The matrix with monogram of interlaced initials JE or EJ. With original bronze plinth stand, affixed with a plaque dated 1915 to 1918 in commemoration of the Dutch Butter Association formed to manage severe wartime disruptions in food production, trade blocks, and distribution. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Measures 5 5/8” total height with the stand x 2 3/8" square at the base. The wax seal alone stands 3 1/2" tall x 1 1/2" wide, the circular matrix is 7/8" diameter.
Botervereeniging (Butter Association) was established in the Netherlands on September 11, 1915, as a crisis-management and regulatory organization during World War I. Formed by the F.N.Z. (Federatie van Nederlandsche Zuivelbonds) and the Vereniging van Zuivelfabrikanten, it managed domestic butter consumption, set export guidelines, and handled distribution permits (consenten) for wartime trade until its liquidation in 1918.
