Exceptional antique early 19th French chenille embroidery on painted silk piece depicting a family in a charming country setting. Their faces and hands are beautifully hand painted, as well as the sky background, in watercolor on the silk. Exquisite embroidery details to the tree overhead as well as the various foliage and flowers decorating the base. Much of the embroidery work was accomplished by using silk chenille floss. The luminosity and the varying textures created in silk chenille thread are mesmerizing. Unframed. Attached to a wooden stretcher. Measures 17 1/4" x 13 3/4". In overall good antique condition. Some light foxing to the silk background. At the upper right corner above the thatched roof are several small pin holes within the silk panel. Viewing the piece from the side there are some tears/folding over to the side edges along the stretcher, this will most likely be hidden once the piece is framed.
