A superb antique 19th century Georgian wax seal wheel with six intaglios engraved from colorful semi-precious stones. Each are prong set onto gilt ormolu spokes on a rotating wheel and ornate mount. Surmounted onto a faceted carnelian handle. In good antique condition, some wear commensurate with age and use. The seal wheel measures 3 1/2" length x 1" width x 5/8" deep. The matrices measure 3/8" x 7/16".
The six intaglios include the following matrices:
Bloodstone: Featuring the image of a butterfly over a heart with the words 'Tu Me Fixe' / You Fix Me.
Black Onyx: The words Forget me not around a Forget-Me-Not flower.
Amethyst: A rebus puzzle for 'Une lettre adoucit les peines de l'absence' / A letter softens the pains of absence.
White Chalcedony: God Bless You.
Blue Agate: A dove with the words 'Paix A'mon Ami' / Peace To My Friend.
Citrine: Bon Soir (Good night) above pictorial of a hand holding a candle snuffer, ready to extinguish the flame of the lit candle.
