Equestrian animal study portrait of a horse by Wilhelm Westerop (German, 1876–1954) based in Potsdam. Beautifully rendered with exquisite detail to the body structure of the horse. Oil on Canvas. Framed. Titled 'Goldfasan'. Signed lower left 'Wilhelm Westerop' and dated 1928. Westerop was known for his portraits of animals, particularly thoroughbreds, racing horses and dogs. Given his high level of proficiency, it's likely that he was regularly commissioned to paint beloved family pets and thoroughbreds. Frame measures 23 1/2" x 19 5/8" x 2 3/8" deep. Canvas measures 18" x 13 7/8". Some inpainting and couple of repairs as shown under a UV light. Frame having some lacks and scuffing to the corners and side edges.
