
Large antique French bronze jewelry box from the Belle Epoque era. Featuring a gouache miniature portrait housed under glass, depicting a lady in a powdered wig wearing a hat edged with roses. The portrait is small rendering of Marie Thérèse Louise of Savoy, Princesse de Lamballe. The box is square shaped, resting on four bun feet. The portrait is set high on the lid in a domed design trimmed with a decorative border and adorned at the four points with a scrolled thyrsus accents. Surmounted in a quatrefoil shape with decorative floral border, finished with flowers and acanthus appliques. All on a basket woven textured ground with larger flower and leaf appliques. The sides of the box decorated with ornate floral friezes. Centered by a lock. Hinged lid opens to reveal a pink satin fabric lined interior. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use, lacking a key to the lock, wear/discoloration and fraying to the fabric interior as shown. Measures 7 1/4" square x 2 5/8".
