A stunning LARGE late 19th century French scarf chest. These impressive boxes were made to store silk and cashmere scarves and gloves, perfect for storing favorite designer scarves, fashion accessories, even fine jewelry. The box features superb walnut veneers with ebonized wood trim. Burled walnut veneer to the lid inlaid with magnificent brass and mother of pearl or abalone. Working lock and key. Resting on four sturdy brass or bronze bun feet. The lid and front flap open to reveal a fully fitted interior. Lined in charming pink tufted and ruched silk. With beveled mirror and large storage area with two sliding drawers below (also lined inside.) Overall one of the best examples of these exquisite old scarf chests. In very good antique condition with general wear/traces of use. Some shrinkage lines to the sides and back corner. A couple of small chips to the veneer on the right side corner and flap. The interior lining is in very good order, a couple of mild stains commensurate with use but intact and will present your scarves and treasures beautifully.
