An outstanding antique French sterling silver liquor / whiskey hip flask. Dating to the Belle Epoque era, early 20th century. Patterned with exquisite engine turned guilloche engraving to the sterling lid, threaded collar and detachable drinking cup attached to the base. Further embellished with exquisite floral clusters and garland swags. Stunning engraved flowers and ribbon bows adorn the thick hand blown and cut glass body. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark used from 1838 to 1919, which depicts the goddess Minerva with a number 1 beside her to denote a silver content of 950/1000 (of 95% pure silver and a higher finesse than .925 sterling). Bearing maker's marks for Parisian silversmith Antony Salomon, active from 1901-1912, whose workshop was located at 260 rue Saint-Honoré in Paris. Retains a glass stopper. In very good condition for age and type. No chips or cracks to the glass flask. No damage, dings or dents to the thick gauge sterling mounts. Some scratches to the glass from handling and general use. Measures 5 1/8" length x 2 3/8" width.
