A gorgeous and RARE French porcelain figurine depicting a circus monkey riding a dog! This figurine is masterfully detailed, beautifully hand painted in tiny brushstrokes in an array of bright, bold colors. Quite a charming piece and subject matter, this figurine holds both a touch of whimsy and comical innocence! Just one of a set of four circus monkeys astride furry companions, only found here at The Antique Boutique!
Dressed in a bright red, blue and yellow marching band uniform, our monkey friend is ready to play with a gilded french horn slung across the shoulder and baton in hand! Clad in a brown collar, his furry hound dog (possibly a golden retriever?) companion stands at the ready in a playful stance with tail wagging and wearing a particularly whimsical expression with a large, red grin!
Applied porcelain flowers and foliate adorn the base. Marked with a pair of crossed arrows between Porcelaine de Paris and Made in France for Bourdois & Bloch, founded in 1887 in Paris.
The figurine is in very good condition.
Piece measures 6 3/8" tall x 6 3/8" in length.
